In August we remember...

In August we remember the sacrifice made by George Childerly (r) and Harry Hayden (l), Eltilsey soldiers who fell in the Great War. George was killed on 16th August and Harry died on 21st having received the wound which eventually killed him on 8th August, within sight of where Harry was fighting.
George died during an attack on a German-held trench that ran through the centre of High Wood near the village of Bazentin-le-petit. George is buried in Danzig Alley Cemetery overlooking the battlefied where he was killed.
In July 1916 Harry Hayden suffered a shrapnel wound to his back. He quickly recovered and soon returned to the trenches. In August he was wounded again, this time more seriously, and was transferred to Boulogne Hospital. He died on 21st August 1916 and is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
